Dancing with the devil

This painting reflects on the struggles of the common Nigerian man and the oppression of the poor by the ruling class. Inspired by a photo of my father dancing at a club in the 1980s, it explores how classism and exploitation in Nigeria stem from a deeper identity crisis. Our disconnection from what is truly ours. The scene, set at a European aid party without a single white man present, reveals the irony of black elites continuing systems of oppression rooted in colonialism.
